San Francisco
2,500 people rallied at UN Plaza near City Hall for the emergency response protest organized by International ANSWER. Many folks stopped by the Not in Our Name tent with our “Iraq is Arabic for Vietnam” banner flying above.

At various points along the march route, Not in Our Name led “die ins” of hundreds of people to remind people about the Iraqis that are being killed every day. At the end of each“die in”, folks jump up off the street and chant “Rise up with the people of the world!” The march made it way past the historic/tourist cable car turnabout, and finally back to the plaza for a closing rally.

Not in Our Name organizer and first 1991 Gulf War military resister Jeff Paterson addressed the rally emphasizing the need to support the troops that refuse to fight—like Sgt. Camilo Mejia who refused to return to Iraq—and the importance of being in New York City during the Republican National Convention to say “NO” to Bush and everything he represents.

Mr. Allan Solomonow At the Alameda Public Affairs Forum on July 10, 2004...
Allan Solomonow spoke

"Palestine and Israel: What Must Be Done to End the Conflict?""

"I do not believe there will be peace in the Holy Land until both of its people enjoy a State of their own, a viable State living in peace, justice, security, and hope. Nor will there be peace in Iraq until the United States learns that there are no good occupations and no involuntary democracy. And we will not know security around our globe until the United States and everyone else understands that the pursuit of justice and peace cannot be expedited at the barrel of a gun or a pile of nuclear weapons."
-- Allan Solomonow
